National style

National scoring patterns differ measurably across 73,099 senior IJF contests. This page identifies the techniques each country scores with disproportionately often, rather than simply listing its most common scores, which are much the same everywhere.

A figure of 2.0 means a country scores with that technique twice as often, as a share of its own scoring, as senior judo does overall. Every one is printed with the count behind it, because a large ratio on a small count is the easiest misleading number in this whole dataset.

No competitor is named or profiled anywhere here. The country is recorded on the scoring event itself, so this needs no athlete data at all, and none is stored. 28 countries have enough scores to appear.

How to read it, and how not to

These are not the techniques a country scores with most. Almost every country's most frequent techniques are the same handful that lead everywhere, which is why a raw ranking would say nothing. These are the techniques where a country departs furthest from the sport's own habits.

A signature is not a prescription either. It says what has been landing at the top level for the athletes a federation has sent, over six years of results. It does not say the technique suits you, and it certainly does not say a country teaches nothing else.

Senior IJF competition, 2020 to 2026. A country needs 500 scores to appear and a technique needs 25 before any ratio is calculated, so a country you expect to see may be absent for want of data rather than want of style.
