Step by step
The whole movement in words, so no part of it depends on watching a video. Described in the standard right-handed form.
Left-handed: these steps are written right-handed, as the syllabuses write them. Read every left as a right and every right as a left, and the throw is yours.
- Begin as for the spring hip throw from a right-handed grip: enter with your back turning in, bent right leg set against the front of their right leg.
- As they resist the spring, release the lapel and throw your right arm up and over their right arm and shoulder, wrapping it against your body.
- Wind: rotate your whole body to the left, their trapped arm and chest wrapped to you, and let yourself travel towards the mat as one turning unit.
- Your spring leg lifts as you wind, carrying them over your body.
- You land on your left side with them rolling over and past you; they land on their back beyond you. Keep the wrapped arm until they are down, then release so both of you can rise.
Receiving it
The spring-hip entry arrives and then their arm wraps over yours, trapping it, and their whole body turns and drops: you are wound around them to the mat. Your wrapped arm cannot slap, so this landing is about shape: stay curled around their rotation, chin tucked, and let your side and back take the mat together as you land beside them. In practice, wind gradually; this is a heavy fall to receive at full speed.
About this technique
