Seoi-nage into Seoi-otoshi
Same entry, different finish. When the lift will not come because their hips are low or they are heavier than you, dropping to the knee turns the throw into one that needs no lift at all.
No demonstration linked yet, and this is one of the places footage helps most. Know a good one? Suggest a video.
Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Take your right grips and spin in for Seoi-nage, both hands controlling their right side.
- Feel the lift fail: your hips cannot get below theirs and their weight stays back.
- Drop your right knee to the mat and extend your right leg across the front of their legs.
- Keep their arm tight to your shoulder and pull the sleeve down towards the mat.
- Turn your shoulders sharply to the left so they travel over your extended leg.
- They land on their back in front of you; keep the sleeve to support the fall.
