Ippon-seoi-nage into Uchi-makikomi

  1. Ippon-seoi-nage一本背負投
  2. Uchi-makikomi内巻込

When the shoulder throw stalls with their arm still trapped high, winding inwards turns the stall into the throw: you keep the arm, add your body weight and roll through instead of lifting.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Turn in for Ippon-seoi-nage, your right arm under their right arm and their sleeve in your left hand.
  2. Feel the lift fail because their hips are low and their weight is behind you.
  3. Clamp their right arm tightly against your right shoulder and chest so it cannot be pulled free.
  4. Keep turning to your left and drop your hips lower than theirs, winding your body inside their arm.
  5. Commit your weight forward and roll over your right shoulder line, taking them with you.
  6. You both land on the mat; land on your own side, keep their arm supported and do not drop your weight onto their shoulder. Build up gradually.
