combination
Harai-goshi into O-soto-gari
The classic renraku-waza pair, and the one the syllabuses name: Harai-goshi turns them forward, and the moment they lean away from it their weight is on the back heel that O-soto-gari reaps.

Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Take your right grips and turn in for Harai-goshi, loading them onto your right hip.
- Feel them lean back and post their right leg to stop the sweep.
- Step your right foot down beside their right foot and turn your chest to face them again.
- Pull down with the sleeve and drive your right lapel hand up into their chin line so their weight settles fully onto their right heel.
- Swing your right leg past their right leg and reap it sharply backwards while your upper body drives the opposite way.
- They fall straight back; keep the sleeve to support the landing.
