Tai-otoshi into Yoko-shiho-gatame

Tai-otoshi turns your partner over an extended leg and lands them on their side, facing away. Following the turn brings you straight across their body into the side four quarters hold.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Take your right grips and turn them over your extended right leg with Tai-otoshi.
  2. Keep hold of their sleeve so the landing is controlled and they end on their back.
  3. Drop to your knees beside their right side, chest first, before they can turn in.
  4. Pass your right arm between their legs and grip their belt, and your left arm under their neck.
  5. Bring your chest down across their chest and spread your knees wide for base.
  6. Hold with chest pressure, head up, and release the moment they tap.
