About this technique
The answer to a partner bent forward and defending: tori reaches over uke's shoulder to take the belt, holds uke's right arm or leg with the other hand, and lifts uke over tori's right shoulder. Recognised by the Kodokan beyond the Gokyo and common in contest, where a bent-over posture invites it.

Step by step
These steps describe the standard right-handed form without relying on the video.
Left-handed: these steps use the standard right-handed form. Swap every left and right.
- Your partner is bent forward, defending, their head below your chest.
- Reach your right arm over their shoulder and take their belt behind them, thumb hooked under it.
- Take hold of their right arm or their right leg with your left hand.
- Bend your knees and keep your own back straight, then straighten your legs to lift them from the mat.
- Carry the lift on so they turn over your right shoulder and land on their back; keep hold of the belt as they land rather than letting them drop.

Receiving it
A hand reaches over your shoulder to your belt while you are bent forward, your right arm or leg is taken, and your feet leave the mat before you can straighten up. You turn over their right shoulder onto your back and cannot step out of it once the lift starts, so tuck your chin hard, keep any free arm ready to slap, and stay heavy rather than fighting the turn in the air. Build this one up gradually with a partner you trust.
VI judo notes
A bent-over defence announces itself, their weight dropping and their head coming below your chest, and this is the answer to it. Reach over their shoulder and slide your hand down their back until your thumb hooks under the belt, then find their right arm or leg with your left hand before you straighten. Keep hold of the belt rather than letting go at the top of the lift.
