O-uchi-gari countered by Tsurikomi-goshi

  1. O-uchi-gari大内刈
  2. Tsurikomi-goshi釣込腰

Absorbing the inner reap leaves your partner standing on one leg and leaning forward into you. Tsuri-komi-goshi lifts and draws from exactly that position, and every syllabus in this reference names the pair.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Feel their leg arrive against the inside of your left leg as they attempt O-uchi-gari.
  2. Bend the attacked leg and drop your weight onto it rather than pulling it away.
  3. Lift your right hand high on their lapel so their upper body is drawn up and forward.
  4. Spin in on the ball of your left foot, hips lower than theirs, keeping the lifting hand high.
  5. Straighten your legs and turn your shoulders to the left, drawing them up and over your hip.
  6. They travel over your hip onto their back; keep the sleeve to support the fall.
