O-soto-gake into O-soto-gari

  1. O-soto-gake大外掛
  2. O-soto-gari大外刈

Hooking and reaping attack the same leg on the same line. If your partner hops free of the hook, the leg is momentarily unweighted and can be reaped as it lands.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Take your right grips, step in beside their right foot and hook your right calf behind their right leg.
  2. Feel them hop the trapped leg backwards to free it.
  3. Follow them, keeping your chest close and the sleeve tight.
  4. As the foot lands, drive your lapel hand up and pull the sleeve down to pin their weight onto it.
  5. Swing your right leg back and reap the leg sharply backwards.
  6. They fall straight back; keep the sleeve.
