Kuzure-kami-shiho-gatame to Ushiro-kesa-gatame

  1. Kuzure-kami-shiho-gatame崩上四方固
  2. Ushiro-kesa-gatame後袈裟固

Turning away from the broken upper four quarters hold is the standard escape attempt, and it hands you the reverse scarf hold. You follow the turn rather than fighting it.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Hold them in Kuzure-kami-shiho-gatame from above their head, one arm under a shoulder gripping the belt.
  2. Feel them bridge and turn onto one side to make space underneath you.
  3. Do not resist the turn: travel with it, swinging your hips around towards the side they are turning to.
  4. Sit your hip down beside their shoulder, facing their feet, and pass your near arm over their chest.
  5. Trap their near arm and spread your legs wide, one forward and one back, for base.
  6. Settle your weight through your chest onto their upper body; release the moment they tap.
