当身技 · striking techniques

Striking techniques are part of the Kodokan classification and no part of randori or shiai: striking an opponent is prohibited in contest at every grade. They survive in kata, chiefly Kime-no-kata, Kodokan Goshin-jutsu and Seiryoku-Zenyo-Kokumin-Taiiku, where they are performed to a set form rather than practised freely. Nothing in this reference is classified as one, because it carries the techniques a syllabus examines and a contest permits. The category is here because the classification has it, and it is empty because judo made it so.
