Tai-otoshi countered by Ko-soto-gake
The extended blocking leg of a Tai-otoshi carries no weight. Hooking behind it while your partner is committed to the turn drops them backwards over their own block.

Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Feel their leg arrive across the front of your foot as they turn in for Tai-otoshi.
- Stop your own forward momentum: sink your hips and keep your chest upright.
- Keep both grips and step your blocked foot back over their extended leg.
- Hook the sole of your near foot behind the heel of their supporting leg.
- Drive their chest backwards with your lapel hand while the hook holds the heel.
- They fall backwards; keep the sleeve and stay balanced over them.
