Step by step

These steps describe the whole sequence in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Take your right grips and turn in for Tai-otoshi with your right leg across the front of their right foot.
  2. Feel them step over or around your extended leg, which widens their stance.
  3. Keep turning, pull the sleeve up and across, and bring your hips in tight against theirs.
  4. Swing your right leg back between their legs and lift the inside of their left thigh with the back of your thigh.
  5. Continue turning your shoulders to the left as the leg lifts.
  6. They rotate over your hip and land on their back; keep the sleeve throughout.

Receiving it

Stepping over or around the blocking leg saves the throw and opens your stance, and a wide stance is an invitation to the inner thigh throw. Their leg swings back into the gap you have just made and lifts your thigh from underneath. There is no post available on that side. Stay tight to their back, chin tucked, and slap with your free left arm as your back lands.

VI judo notes

Keep turning through the change rather than stopping to reset: the blocking leg swings back between their legs, so it is one continuous action and your leg keeps its reference. Their stance widening is felt as their weight settling between their feet in your hands. Pull the sleeve up and across so their chest comes onto your back and the lift finds their thigh by contact.
