Hiza-guruma into Ashi-guruma

  1. Hiza-guruma膝車
  2. Ashi-guruma足車

Both are wheels around a blocked leg; only the height of the block changes. If your partner lifts their foot over the block at the knee, the same turning action works with the block raised to the thigh.

Step by step

The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.

  1. Take your right grips and step in to place the sole of your left foot against the outside of their right knee.
  2. Turn your hands like a steering wheel to send them forward over the block.
  3. Feel them lift their right foot over your blocking foot to step out of it.
  4. Put your left foot down, step across in front of them and place your right leg straight across the front of both of their thighs.
  5. Continue the same wheeling action with your hands, pulling the sleeve down and driving the lapel around.
  6. They turn over your extended leg and land on their back; keep the sleeve throughout.
