Ashi-guruma into Tani-otoshi
Ashi-guruma asks your partner to come forward over an extended leg. Stepping around the block to escape it puts them behind their own feet, which is exactly where Tani-otoshi drops them.

Step by step
The whole sequence in words. Described in the standard right-handed form.
- Take the standard grip: your left hand on their right sleeve, your right hand on their left lapel.
- Turn in for Ashi-guruma, your right leg straight across the front of both of their thighs, and pull them forward over it.
- Feel them step their right foot around the outside of your blocking leg to escape, which turns their hips and puts their weight behind their heels.
- Keep the sleeve, turn your chest to face the same way as theirs and extend your right leg behind both of their legs, sitting your hip low.
- Sit down close beside them and drive your shoulders back over your extended leg.
- They fall backwards over your leg onto their side; keep the sleeve so their head does not follow their hips down.
