Turnover into Kata-te-jime ========================== Turnovers (turning a defending partner) Against a turtled partner: one hand feeds deep across the neck to take the far lapel, and the turnover and the single-hand strangle arrive together, so defending one exposes the other. Strangles are senior material and always released on the tap. Key points ---------- - Feed the lapel hand deep before you start the roll - The turnover and the strangle are one movement, not two - Apply gradually: the tap comes fast from a turtled partner Step by step ------------ 1. Your partner is on hands and knees, defending, and you are at their right side. 2. Reach your right hand over their neck and feed it under their throat to grip their far lapel, thumb inside. 3. Take their near arm or belt with your left hand and drag them towards you, rolling them over their right shoulder. 4. As they land on their side or back, your gripping forearm is already across the throat: Kata-te-jime is on. 5. Squeeze gradually by drawing the lapel and pressing the forearm; release completely the instant they tap. From the other side ------------------- A hand snakes under your throat while you are turtled, and the roll that follows lands you with a forearm already across your neck. Defend the lapel hand before the roll starts by tucking your chin and gripping their sleeve; once the strangle closes, tap at once rather than testing it.
