The handbook prints each in-between grade as a two-colour belt, for example White/Yellow, or under the Mon system as the lower colour with a stripe of the higher; either is allowed. The United States Judo Federation's recommended junior pathway for judoka aged 16 and under: eleven kyu grades from white to purple belt, then Shodan.
