The forms print two colours for 4th to 8th Dan without saying how they are arranged on the belt. The United States Judo Association's ranks from 4th to 10th Dan. By 4th Dan a candidate has shown technical proficiency in the association's curriculum, and promotion from there is judged on service to the development of judo through the association rather than by examination. 4th and 5th Dan are instructor grades, 6th to 8th Dan are awarded for mastery of the curriculum and extraordinary service, and 9th and 10th Dan are reserved for a lifetime of work at national and international level. The Promotion Board, made up of 6th Dan holders and above, looks at each application as a whole, with most weight on service since the last promotion; a sub-committee reviews 4th and 5th Dan, and ranks above 8th Dan also need the approval of the Board of Directors. 0 techniques are set for this grade. This wording is the authority for what is examined; everything above is this reference's own arrangement of it. Minimum requirements -------------------- 1. Must be 75 years of age or older. 2. Must have five continuous years closest to the date of submission as a member of USJA as a Kudan prior to being eligible for promotion to Judan. 3. Must be an active/current member of the USJA. 4. Must have been continuously involved in activities with USJA such as teaching, training, coaching, refereeing or administration/leadership. 5. Must be a member of a Chartered USJA club. 6. Must have at least 11 years in grade as a Kudan. 7. Must have unquestioned moral character, integrity, and maturity. Should have an exceptional and unblemished judo career. 8. Must have a current & clear Background Screen, current Concussion/Heads Up Certification and Safe Sport Certification. 9. Have all claimed USJA Certifications up to date and current. 10. Must have documented substantial International/World presence/impact/effect on the Judo Community. 11. Must have been an outstanding competitor, coach, referee, teacher and/or Judo leader or produced high level competitors, coaches, referees, teachers and/or Judo leaders. 12. A vote of 100% of the entire Promotional Committee shall be required for approval of Judan rank. 13. A vote of 100% of the entire Board of Directors shall be required for approval of Judan rank. 14. Must be recommended for Promotion by (2) 7D + (3) 8D + (2) 9D that are active/current USJA members with written recommendations as to why they support this candidate for their promotion to 10D. 15. Must submit an extensive Judo biography to cover activities since their last promotion and your lifetime accomplishments. 16. Must submit an updated Photo (passport/jpg) Rank table: age, activities level, time in grade and sign-offs -------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Age: 75 2. IMPORTANT NOTE: Only those with documented activities at the highest levels are considered for high dan promotions. Sixty percent (60%) or more of the activities must be at the levels shown as follows or higher. Activities that include those for visually impaired VI such as Parapan Games, Para World, and Paralympics also meet this requirement equally. 6. 10th Dan International and World level Check list ---------- 1. 9th/10th Dan RFP form complete, make sure you have correct form and it must be typed. 2. Candidate must have current & maintained USJA membership. (Annual or SLM with Chartered USJA Club) 3. Candidate must have current and clear Background check. 4. Candidate must have completed Safe Sport Certification. 5. Candidate must have completed CDC Heads Up Certification. 6. Candidate meets or exceeds TIG. 7. All claimed USJA Certifications up to date and current. 8. Enclose *Processing Fee as required, amount $35.00. After approval, Promotion fee due as listed below. 9. Include an updated Photo (Passport type). 10. Include an extensive Judo Biography. 11. Include comprehensive written recommendation from all high dan blackbells that signed your RFP.
