Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi into De-ashi-harai. Combination (Renraku-waza). Techniques ---------- 1. Sasae-tsurikomi-ashi (支釣込足), the propping drawing ankle throw. 2. De-ashi-harai (出足払), the advancing foot sweep. About ----- Both are ashi-waza on a moving partner. If they step over the prop, the same foot is advancing and unweighted, which is precisely what De-ashi-barai sweeps. Step by step (standard right-handed form) ----------------------------------------- 1. Take your right grips and move with your partner. 2. Place the sole of your left foot against the front of their right ankle to prop it, turning your hands to draw them forward. 3. Feel them lift the foot over your prop and continue their step. 4. Put your left foot back down and stay with their movement, keeping the sleeve tight. 5. As their advancing left foot travels and just before it takes weight, sweep it sideways with the sole of your right foot. 6. They fall onto their side; keep the sleeve so their head stays supported. Receiving it ------------ Lifting your foot over the prop keeps you moving and keeps you vulnerable, because the same foot is still travelling and still unweighted when the sweep arrives. Expect the second attack on the beat of your step, not after it. You land on your side rather than flat: chin tucked, slap with your free arm as your side meets the mat, and let the held sleeve keep your head clear. VI judo notes ------------- Both attacks are ashi-waza on a moving partner, which is timing through contact rather than anything visual, but the movement itself is the part to drill with a coach calling the space. Their foot lifting over your prop is felt directly on your propping sole: that is your cue. Keep the sleeve tight so their body stays with yours while your feet do the work.
