O-uchi-gari into O-soto-gari. Combination (Renraku-waza). Techniques ---------- 1. O-uchi-gari (大内刈), the major inner reap. 2. O-soto-gari (大外刈), the major outer reap. About ----- Saving the leg from the inner reap loads the other one, and the loaded leg is reaped from the outside. Step by step (standard right-handed form) ----------------------------------------- 1. Take your right grips and reap the inside of their left leg backwards with your right leg. 2. Feel them pull that leg clear and settle their weight onto their right foot. 3. Put your right foot down beside their right foot, toes pointing past them, and turn your chest square to them. 4. Pull down on their right sleeve and drive your lapel hand up so their weight pins onto that right heel. 5. Swing your right leg past the outside of their right leg and reap the back of it sharply backwards. 6. They fall straight back; keep the sleeve and stay upright over them. Receiving it ------------ Saving your left leg from the inner reap is the right thing to do and it puts all of your weight onto your right foot, which is the leg they take next. Inside then outside, on the same beat, and the second attack comes from the leg that has just finished the first. Keep your chin on your chest, do not post behind you with a straight arm, and slap the mat with your free left arm as your back lands. Demonstrations -------------- Mike Swain: 1:06:40 Ouchi-gari to Osoto-gari https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cCAytbmk3g&t=4000s VI judo notes ------------- One pair of grips, one leg doing both jobs: this pair is easy to keep hold of from the gripped-up start. Your own reaping leg tells you when theirs has gone, and your lapel hand tells you the weight has arrived on the other foot. Put the reaping foot down beside their foot before you swing it back, so the second attack starts from a distance you have already measured.
