O-uchi-gari into O-soto-gari into Ko-soto-gari. Combination (Renraku-waza). Techniques ---------- 1. O-uchi-gari (大内刈), the major inner reap. 2. O-soto-gari (大外刈), the major outer reap. 3. Ko-soto-gari (小外刈), the minor outer reap. About ----- Three reaps in a row, each fed by the escape from the last: inside, then outside, then the small outside reap as the retreating heel finally runs out of mat. Step by step (standard right-handed form) ----------------------------------------- 1. Take your right grips and reap the inside of their left leg backwards with your right leg. 2. Feel them pull that leg clear and load their weight onto their right foot. 3. Put your right foot down beside their right foot and reap the back of that leg with O-soto-gari, driving your lapel hand up as you go. 4. Feel them hop or step backwards out of the second reap, still travelling away from you. 5. Follow them, keeping the sleeve tight, and sweep the outside of their nearest heel with the sole of your left foot as it touches down. 6. They run out of room and fall backwards; keep the sleeve and stay balanced over them. Receiving it ------------ Three attacks and each of your own escapes sets up the next: save the inside leg and you load the outside one, escape that and you are retreating, and a retreating heel eventually has nowhere to land. Keep taking the falls you are given rather than defending in a straight line backwards. Chin tucked, held arm long, and slap with your free arm as your back arrives, which will be some distance from where you started. Demonstrations -------------- Mike Swain: 1:07:50 Ouchi-gari to Osoto-gari to Kosoto-gari https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cCAytbmk3g&t=4070s VI judo notes ------------- This is the chain worth drilling with a coach calling the space, because three attacks travel a long way and the edge arrives sooner than it feels. Each escape is read through the leg you have just used, so keep your feet low and close to theirs and never lift a leg away between attacks. Keep the sleeve tight and their chest travelling backwards, which is what stops them turning out of the chain.
