Ippon-seoi-nage into Tani-otoshi. Combination (Renraku-waza). Techniques ---------- 1. Ippon-seoi-nage (一本背負投), the one-armed shoulder throw. 2. Tani-otoshi (谷落), the valley drop. About ----- A defended shoulder throw invites your partner to press into your back; sliding a leg behind their heels and dropping to the side takes them backwards into the valley. Step by step (standard right-handed form) ----------------------------------------- 1. Take your right grips and turn in for Ippon-seoi-nage, your right arm under their right armpit. 2. Feel them stop the throw by pressing their chest and their weight forward into your back. 3. Stop asking for the lift. Keep the sleeve and turn your chest so you face the same way as them, your hip against theirs. 4. Extend your right leg low and straight behind both of their legs, sitting your hip down towards the mat. 5. Sit down close beside them and drive your shoulders back over your extended leg. 6. They fall backwards over your leg onto their side; keep the sleeve so their head does not follow their hips down. Receiving it ------------ Leaning into their back is a common way to kill a shoulder throw, and it hands them this one: your weight is already behind your heels when their leg slides in behind both of your legs. You go backwards over a barrier you cannot step over, with them dropping beside you. Do not put a hand out behind you. Chin on your chest, slap with your free arm, and let the held sleeve turn you slightly onto your side as you land. Keep the sleeve throughout: it is what tells you where their body is once you turn to face the same way, and it is what keeps their head off the mat at the finish.
